Disney+ Announces 'Perfect Crown' with IU & Byeon Woo-seok and 'Made in Korea' Season 2 Renewal! (2025)

Hold on to your hearts, K-drama fans! Disney+ is about to get even more addictive. Get ready for a whirlwind of romance, power struggles, and thrilling mysteries as the streaming giant unveils its ambitious plans for Korean content. And trust me, you won't want to miss a single episode. But here's where it gets controversial... some fans are already debating whether Disney+ is becoming too focused on K-dramas. What do you think? Let us know in the comments.

At a recent Asia Pacific content showcase held at Hong Kong Disneyland (talk about a magical setting!), Disney+ proudly announced a brand-new original Korean drama and a surprise renewal of an already highly anticipated series. The event served as a victory lap for the streamer, highlighting the success of its ever-growing library of acclaimed Korean dramas that have captivated audiences worldwide in recent years. Before diving into their exciting upcoming projects from Korea, Disney+ took a moment to celebrate this past success. And this is the part most people miss... Disney+'s strategic investment in diverse international content is clearly paying off in terms of subscriber growth and global recognition.

Get ready to mark your calendars for 2026 because that's when the buzzworthy MBC drama Perfect Crown will grace our screens! Starring the incredibly popular IU (fresh off her role in the Netflix drama When Life Gives You Tangerines in 2025) and the rising star Byeon Woo-seok (who stole hearts in Lovely Runner in 2024), Perfect Crown promises to be a global sensation. While an exact release date is still under wraps, the anticipation is already building!

So, what's Perfect Crown all about? Imagine modern-day Korea, but with a twist: it's a constitutional monarchy! The series is described as a touching romantic comedy that follows Grand Prince Wan, the nation's beloved royal, as he finds himself entangled in a fierce power struggle within the royal family. To further complicate matters, he's under immense pressure to marry. He then strikes a marriage of convenience with Heeju, the heir to a powerful Korean conglomerate. The two initially plan to use the marriage to advance their own agendas, but as you can imagine, things don't go quite according to plan. Expect plenty of unexpected twists, hilarious misunderstandings, and heartwarming moments as their fake relationship blossoms into something real. This premise may not be entirely unique, but the star power of IU and Byeon Woo-seok alone is enough to get fans excited.

But the good news doesn't stop there! Disney+ also revealed that the upcoming prestige drama Made in Korea has been renewed for a second season before the first season has even aired! Production is already underway, with a targeted release date in 2026. The series stars Korean A-listers Hyun Bin and Jung Woo-sung, whose appearance on stage at the Hong Kong showcase drew enthusiastic cheers from the audience. The first season of Made in Korea is set to premiere with a special two-episode event on December 24th.

Made in Korea takes place in the turbulent 1970s. The first season centers on Baek Kitae, an ambitious KCIA agent living a dangerous double life. Driven by an insatiable thirst for power, Kitae works as an agent by day and a smuggler by night. He's smart, suave, cunning, and incredibly capable, allowing him to rapidly climb the ranks. He uses his smuggling operation to consolidate power, protect his brother, and generate vast sums of money for the agency. He seems unstoppable, but one thing stands in his way: a tenacious prosecutor who cannot be bought, bribed, or reasoned with. With everything at stake, the series will follow the intense rivalry between these two men as they attempt to destroy each other. Is the anti-hero Baek Kitae's ambition justified, or is he simply a villain in disguise? That is the question that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats.

The showcase also highlighted other exciting Korean originals now available or coming soon to Disney+, including The Manipulated (an action drama starring Ji Chang-wook and Doh Kyung-soo), Battle of Fates (a reality competition pitting fortune-tellers against each other), Gold Land (a crime and action drama starring Park Bo-young and Kim Sung-cheol), and season two of the critically-acclaimed action thriller A Shop for Killers (starring Lee Dong-wook and Kim Hye-jun). Fans also got a sneak peek at season two of Are You Sure?!, the documentary series featuring Jimin and Jungkook from the global K-pop sensation BTS, which will debut on Disney+ on December 3rd

And because Disney+ isn't just about K-dramas, the Hong Kong showcase also revealed a collaboration with legendary Japanese video game developer Hideo Kojima for an anime series based on his groundbreaking game Death Stranding. The 2D animated series, tentatively titled Death Stranding Isolations, is slated to premiere on the streamer in 2027.

With such a diverse and compelling lineup, Disney+ is clearly committed to delivering top-notch entertainment to its global audience. Now, over to you: Which of these upcoming shows are you most excited about? Do you think Disney+'s focus on international content is a smart move? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
