Finally! Mad Men, the iconic series that redefined television, is finding its rightful place – on HBO Max! This is a major win for fans, and here's why it matters.
For years, Mad Men felt like it was destined for a platform like HBO. Now, this critically acclaimed drama from Lionsgate Television is joining the HBO Max library on December 1st. But that's not all – it's streaming in stunning 4K for the first time ever, exclusively for HBO Max “premium” subscribers.
Created by Matthew Weiner, who also wrote for HBO's The Sopranos, Mad Men originally aired all seven seasons on AMC. This move to HBO Max feels like a homecoming.
“Mad Men is a great addition to the HBO Max library of iconic content,” said Royce Battleman, EVP, Global Content Acquisitions at Warner Bros. Discovery. He further added that HBO Max will provide fans the opportunity to enjoy the series in a fresh way with an enhanced 4K viewing experience.
Jim Packer, President of Worldwide Television Distribution at Lionsgate, echoed this sentiment. He stated that Mad Men continues to show truly remarkable staying power with audiences a full decade after concluding its network run, and they couldn’t imagine a better home for it than HBO Max. He added that HBO sets the bar for premium entertainment, making it the perfect place to celebrate one of television’s defining series while introducing Mad Men to new viewers and reintroducing it to longtime fans in 4K.
And let's not forget, Mad Men introduced us to the charismatic Jon Hamm, among others.
The show's legacy is undeniable. Mad Men won a record-tying four consecutive Best Drama Emmy awards, amassing a total of 16 wins and a staggering 116 nominations.
But here's where it gets interesting...
This move could signal a shift in how we view the streaming landscape. Will other iconic shows follow suit? What does this mean for AMC's future?
