Sylvain Guintoli, a true racing legend, has no plans to hang up his helmet just yet! Despite rumors of retirement, Guintoli is as passionate as ever about the sport he loves.
"I absolutely adore racing; it's the best job in the world!" he exclaimed. With a successful career as a grand prix rider and a World Superbike champion title under his belt, Guintoli has been keeping himself busy with multiple roles.
He's been testing for the factory BMW WorldSBK team, racing in the World Endurance Championship (EWC), and offering his expertise as a MotoGP pundit for TNT Sports. Guintoli believes these avenues perfectly complement each other, and his enthusiasm for competition remains unwavering.
But here's where it gets personal... Guintoli's determination to continue racing has been fueled by a tragic loss. He lost his son Luca earlier this year, and in his memory, Guintoli finds the inspiration and motivation to keep going.
"It's been a difficult two years personally. Losing a child is unimaginable, but seeing Luca's bravery inspired me to carry on and do what I love."
Despite the heartbreak, Guintoli's performances this season have been exceptional. He's faster than ever, leading races and setting records.
"I'll retire when I'm not competitive!" he joked. "But this year, I was leading in Le Mans and smashed the race lap record in Spa. It's been an incredible season."
And this is the part most people miss... Guintoli's success extends beyond the track. He's an integral part of the TNT Sports MotoGP team, bringing his racing expertise to the TV screen.
"Working with TNT is like being part of a dream team. The chemistry is incredible, and it's like a second family. I'm privileged to understand both sides of the sport."
So, what's next for Guintoli? He's considering an extension to his BMW test and EWC deal, but he's also open to exciting new projects.
"I want to be part of a winning team, and I'm motivated to keep racing. The BMW projects have been fantastic, but I'm eager to explore new opportunities."
As for his age, Guintoli, at 43, shows no signs of slowing down. He'll continue to be a familiar face on TNT, offering his insights and expertise to racing fans worldwide.
"It's a different experience being on TV, but I love it. I'm excited for next season and the challenges it brings."
So, will Guintoli retire or continue his racing journey? Only time will tell, but one thing's for sure: he's leaving his mark on the sport and inspiring a new generation of racers.
