While we are only three weeks into 2005, the first three weeks have all been down weeks. Unless we get a decent sized rally in the very near term, expect a poor performance for this year.

If you have ever noticed what happens when two moving averages come together for a stock, then you’ll like this article about the moving average squeeze.
I’m talking specifically about the 50 day and 200 day moving averages coming together. One of the averages is rising, while the other moving average is falling.

The stock market has not moved much this past week. The S&P 500 moved to higher prices, but finished the week barely higher.
The Moving Average Squeeze.
Notice that the Semiconductor Holders is still stuck between the downsloping 200 day moving average and the rising 50 day moving average.
Eventually, this index will break either higher or lower. Until then, I’m on the sidelines.

The stock market took a breather on Friday.
Seems it couldn’t keep the recent gains and finally caved in . oil prices higher should come as no surprise.
The Standard and Poor’s 500 index is coming back to a previous resistance point. Let’s see if this price level acts as support to higher prices . or does it breakdown from here.

The S&P 500 has taken out a serious resistance point.
What’s interesting is that the rest of the market isn’t saying the same thing. The Nasdaq is slightly lower then the earlier 2004 high and the Dow Jones is still almost 300 points away from taking out the 2004 high.

Genesis Microchip looks to have completed a counter trend rally.
Note that the two price swings up from the recent low are almost identical AND the stock stalled out at the 50% retracement.
A low risk sell short opportunity occurs as the stock trades below the 23 August 2004 low of $12.02. If filled, a protective buy stop goes above yesterday’s high of $13.10.
